The action of the 2nd home owners

On 27th November the Swiss residents of Klosters rejected the introduction of new guest tax laws. Consequently the present guest tax laws remain valid for the foreseeable future. It’s good to refresh ones memory of the obligations 2nd home owners need to observe:

  • All 2nd home owners, by definition guests that do not permanently reside in Klosters, are liable to pay a flat rate yearly guest tax of CHF 150.00.
  • In addition to the holiday home owner(s) the flat rate is due for all adults and children up to age 20 living in the same household at the owner’s main residence in Switzerland or abroad.
  • Children under the age of 6 are exempt for the guest tax
  • Children between the age of 6 and 11 pay half of the annual adult fee (CHF 75.00)
  • Children between the age of 12 and 19 are treated as adults and pay CHF 150.00 per year
  • Children over age 20 staying in their parent’s holiday home are treated as adults and may chose one of the following guest tax options:

           -   Annual flat rate guest tax of CHF 120.00. This flat rate  entitles to a transferable guest card that can be used by any
adult staying as a non-paying guest in the holiday home
           -   Guest tax per night of CHF 4.50

Anyone invited to stay as a non-paying guest in the owner’s holiday home can select to pay the guest tax in one of two ways:
          -   Annual flat rate guest tax of CHF 120.00. This flat rate  entitles to a transferable guest card that can be used by any
adult staying as a non-paying guest in the holiday home
          -   Guest tax per night of CHF 4.50

Paying Your Guest Tax
          -   The personal annual guest card for holiday home owners is valid from 1st May to 30th April
          -   The bill for the annual guest card is send together with the new guest card before 1st May
          -   Annual transferable flat rate guest cards can be bought at any time during the year for CHF 120.00. However no pro rat                       payment is available.
          -   Registration of guest wishing to pay per night (CHF 4.50) can be made in person at the Tourist Office
(Alte Bahnhofstrasse 6), by phone or email. Payment can then be made in advance or based on a collective invoice
              sent in May and October.

Guest Benefits

In order to soften the significant payment increases that would come with a new guest tax law the local council is proposing to review the number of benefits associated with the guest card (‘Gästekarte’). However this proposed new list was completed without the views of the 2nd home owners. So here is your chance to state whether these really are the benefits you would like to have in future? Or maybe some are missing? For this purpose please complete the attached questionnaire which lists the current benefits and then return it. It is important that you state which of the proposed benefits you think should be covered by a future guest card (‘Gästekarte’) and which are in your view not necessary or you would not use.
